Robo cop and the terminator.

Sometimes you gotta be your own good medicine, post-election day sads meant a trip to my favorite restaurant, Xochipili, for a hand squeezed mango tamarind margarita, and tacos.

Nature is so fucking dope.

We finally finished our backyard studio build, and Sofia has her very own big girl room. We delayed her 10th birthday party by a whole month in order to get the build done, finish her room, and invite her friends over to celebrate.

The backyard studio also gave Jay an opportunity to return to a beloved hobby. This man sold all of his beat making equipment when we finished school, so we could afford to move to the Bay for my Chronicle Books Fellowship.

We celebrated Jay’s 40th with a weekend escape to a “cabin” in Big Bear. We took our ofrenda with us, and invited extended family to bring pictures of their passed relatives and celebrate with us.

This is the first year my FIL is featured on the ofrenda, it was hard to look forward to building the ofrenda, but once we did we felt so much better. The night before Dia De Muertos, I dreamt about him—he visited me and thanked me for bringing him to his family. In my dream he looked incredible, and it was something he was very proud of, which fits his personality perfectly.

Max and Sofia have been sleeping together since max was 3 days old. They are very tightly bonded, and I wondered how separating their living spaces would work out. It worked out with them taking turns sleeping in each others rooms. <3

Sofia wanted to be Haku the dragon from spirited away for Halloween, which meant a crash course in PVA foam, and cosplay crafts for me. She was super happy with the results. Max decided to be the terminator—no guns allowed at school—so we got him the box with roses in it (if you know, ya know).
